Check out our current ten singles from the diaspora.
Artist: JFS MUSIC Feat King Tone SA, Soa and Mattrix
Track Title: DRY WAVE
Why: Never far away from the baseline DJ mixes that you’ll find from any Amapiano record “Dry Wave” typical deep drive sounds start with a slow pace, Electro feels, different to your usually Amapiano record, the snappy vocals over the beat neatly completes the record.
We really can’t seem to get enough of the tune; it makes us feel like we can take on any of the incredible dance styles derived from the streets of Sound Africa. A strong 9 for us for sure on this one!
Artist: Boy Spyce
Track Title: Destiny
Why: We love this track; the melody, sonically beautiful sound from Boy Spyce rising in the scene showcasing his thoughtful writing skills, expressing the message of hard work and embodiment of the rich culture Boy Spyce has experienced.
Worth noting his vocals sound so smooth, giving you that R&B Afro vibes. Currently, our go-to for restoring some calm into the day and going through the motions with Boy Spyce on this one.
Artist: 4Korners X EverythingOShanN
Track Title: Ogwula
Why: Both artists are based over in Canada with Nigerian heritage; we say this because you feel this vibe in the record, a switch up from a typical Afrobeat record; it has that rap south coast vibe, it’s smooth yet shape, punchy with that street afro rap groove. We can’t get this one out of our head; all we can say is OGWULAAAA.
Artist: Tayc Feat Adekunle Gold
Track Title: Dodo
Why: Tay C really can’t go wrong as we’ve already fallen for the original single, a go-to listen before the fab Adekunle Gold jumped onto the Remix; both vocalist compliments each other, French, sexy falsetto is brilliant, saxophone, playing, and percussion running through the body of work is giving jazzy blues Afro feel. Fantastic, job well done.
Artist: Diamond Platnumz
Track Title: Wonder
Why: Wonder is one of our favs from Diamond’s latest EP, “First of All” beautifully written piece that makes you want to sing along to every lyric even if you don’t understand what Diamond is saying, mixing English with Swahili and so effortlessly, we should note. Combined with the beautiful guitar and African drums tones, you can’t help but embraces the magically East African sounds.
Artist: Black Sherif
Track Title: Kwaku the Traveller
Why: Anthem sound of 2022, dare I say, hard, gritty and delivers. Afro Rap/Afro Drill record Sherif most definitely provides the best of both worlds; a blend of his raw vocals and lyrics has your head bopping to the downtempo, emotive sound.
Artist: ASA Feat Wizkid
Track Title: IDG
Why? Perhaps a slight bias on this record, dare I say, but ASA sweet tones are exquisite. The beautiful story of self-love love in different spaces and catchy lyrics is anyone’s go-to song for peace and chill vibes during any time of the day.
ASA teams up with Wizkid for this one; we can’t stop listening to this record, simple yet brilliant. A solid ten on this one.
Artist: Pheelz Feat BNXN
Track Title: Finesse
It why Safe to say the original has already won us over! With the feeling this record does for any listener, it was only right a remix had to happen, and BNXN delivered with his unique, captivating voice, giving a simple chilled melody yet equally effective. A huge sucker for the guitar and keys, so we’re not surprised why it’s 1 of the most significant records so far this year!
Artist: Uncle Waffles, Feat Tony Duardo, Boi Bizza & Sino Msolo.
Track Title: Tanzania
Why Merely one of our fav Amapiano rhymes out currently. We love the streamlined undertones of percussions. We can’t get enough; having this record on repeat is a must, though not to get up and dance, a typical buzz you have when it comes to any Amapiano record. Once again, Uncle Waffles delivers a fantastic mix with this one.
Artist: Asake Feat Burna Boy
Track Title: Sungba (Remix)
The record is the essence of the afrobeat sound; you’re totally in celebratory mode from the beginning to the end of the track. Rooted with high tempo and energetic rhythm, you can’t help but jump on the dance floor wherever you may be; the mash-up of Yoruba and English lyrics has you singing along regardless if you understand what Asake is saying and that extra heat with Burna Boy African Giant jumping on this remix completes the record.
